Hi, I'm Liz Keable

Welcome! It's good to see you here and I hope I can be of service to you.

Are you the loving parent of a child who struggles to learn, feeling the stress of watching it happen, but at a loss as to what more you can do to help?

Are you a dedicated teacher faced with a worrying lack of engagement from some students in the classroom, unsure of what more you can do if they won't listen?

Are you a school leader, knowing that "metacognition" has a positive impact on student progress, but not sure how to translate that into school practice?

If so, I can help!

How I Can Help

Metacognition is the key in all of these situations, but what does that even mean?

"Cognition" on its own includes all the mental skills required to gain knowledge and understanding, and "meta" means going beyond or transcending that. Put the two together, and you have the idea of a mind turning attention on itself in order to change perceptions and results.

But how do you develop that skill in learners so that they can exceed expectations?

Let me help you to do that for the learner(s) you care about, and then watch as they start to:

  • Appreciate their own role in the learning process
  • Have the belief that they can achieve
  • Become more intentionally motivated
  • Remain more resilient in the face of challenge
  • Take charge of their own progress

By helping students to develop metacognitive skills and then actually use them in practice, you can empower children and young people to change their own results and become more successful learners.

Let me help you to achieve that for them!

Why Metacognition in Practice Is the Answer

As a former High School Science Teacher with a fascination for the "learning brain," I have remained within the field of education for the last 20 years, enthusiastically advocating on behalf of all learners to improve standards in education.

Over that period, I have gained expertise in the effective education of; gifted and talented students, parents, adult learners, those with special education needs, students with behavioural difficulties, teachers, and support staff.

With a determination to make a real difference to the educational and life chances of children and young people, I worked for several years, as an independent Success Coach, supporting hundreds of individual students to achieve academically beyond their own and other's expectations for them.

At the same time I was training school staff in more effective teaching and learning strategies that would enable learners to become more independent of them.

That ability to become a confidently independent learner is a skill that needs to be taught, and the most successful way to achieve that is by introducing students to "metacognition."

To that end I now focus on improving the advocacy that students receive through school leadership teams, teachers and their support staff, as well as parents and carers, by introducing an integrated approach to "metacognition in practice."

Who I Can Help

My "Metacognition in Practice" is an integrated approach to supporting learners by combining the efforts of school leadership teams, teachers, support staff, and parents.

I am aware however, that completely joined-up thinking around a child's education can be tricky, so I also provide separate training for parents and teachers who are not yet part of an integrated approach, but are keen to start making a difference...now!

Liz kindly provided a fantastic presentation to our network on how we can enact success in our students. The talk was highly engaging, clearly evidenced by robust research, and delivered charismatically. We've already had fantastic feedback—would highly recommend. Thank you, Liz!
