School Leadership

Integrate metacognition into school policy and practice … and then watch your learners rise above expectations.

We all know that in any school, you will get a whole range of attitudes and abilities amongst your learners. Some relish being there and fly with little support, others need nudging along but still manage to make progress, and then there are those that you worry about! Sometimes a lack of effective engagement is the result of learning difficulties, previous trauma, or a negative self-image. The list of potential learning barriers is a long one.

We could also add, those learners who come to school reluctantly, viewing education as something being done to them and taking on a passive relationship with learning as a result. Without recognising the importance of their own role in the process, learners can become very dependent, and a diligent teacher can end up putting more effort into a student’s education than they do.

The results achieved by these students can be a source of stress for school leaders who know that they are not working to their best potential. It goes without saying that you want success for every child in your school, but you also know that the overall school results could be so much better if you could find a way to support these learners more effectively.

So how can you solve that problem? Is there an effective way to improve engagement and release greater academic potential in your students?

Yes, the key lies in developing metacognition in your learners! (The ability to change our own thought processes in order to get different results)

‘Metacognition in Practice’ is my integrated approach for schools that makes a real difference to what your learners can achieve. To have the greatest impact, the necessity for students to have a metacognitive approach has to be embedded into school policy, and embraced by staff as an effective way to raise attainment.

To that end, I offer a consultancy service, training for staff, (separate perspectives for Teachers and then SENDCo’s and support staff) plus access to my Learner Success Pathway for individual students that concern you.

I would invite you to consider the impact on results of students who;

  • Engage more effectively
  • Start to appreciate their own role in the learning process
  • Become more internally motivated
  • Take greater responsibility for their own progress
  • Rise above expectations

How do you achieve those results?

Here are just some of what I will share with you as part of your consultancy package.

  • Why some children don’t naturally develop metacognition as a life skill and how you can help them to do so.
  • How metacognition goes way beyond ‘thinking about thinking’ and the vital missing ingredient from that definition.
  • What metacognition actually looks like in practice so that you know how to integrate it successfully

In the post pandemic years, there will be an even greater responsibility for us to find ways of improving mental health and academic outcomes for learners, and helping them to develop metacognitive skills is the way to achieve that!

This package is perfect for you if you are a leadership team that cares about making a real difference to the educational and life chances of the children and young people that you have on roll, whilst improving the school’s results.

I invite you to click the button right now and arrange for a chat, so that we can work out how I can best help your school. I look forward to meeting you!
